About this guide
What this site is, who it's for, and how it was built.
What this is
This is a small, independent travel guide for families planning a trip to Lake Constance (German: Bodensee) in early July. The lake sits at the meeting point of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and makes an unusually varied family destination: swimming and boats, gardens and castles, theme parks and mountains — all within a short hop of one another.
Who it's for
It's written with families in mind, and especially children around 10 years old. Throughout the site you'll see small badges that flag what's particularly good for kids, what works on a rainy day, what's best in summer, and what's free or low-cost.
How it's organised
- Things to Do — family attractions, water & outdoors, towns and rainy-day options.
- Food & Fun — local dishes, family-friendly eating, and evening entertainment.
- Day Trips — five one-day explorations with sample timetables.
- Plan Your Trip — weather, packing, getting around and a sample week.
How it's built
The site is deliberately simple: hand-written HTML, CSS and a little vanilla JavaScript, with no framework and no build step. It's designed to be hosted on Cloudflare Pages as a static site, so it loads fast and is cheap (or free) to run. Pages adapt to light and dark mode and work well on phones — handy when you're checking ideas on the go.
The full design notes and build plan live in the repository's README and docs.
A note on accuracy
This is an unofficial guide put together as a planning aid. Opening hours, prices, ferry timetables and festival dates change from year to year — please confirm details with the official websites and local tourist information before you set out. If you spot something out of date, the source is on GitHub.
